BRIAN'S TAKE

Typically in a musical, when ensemble members are playing multiple parts it's easy to distinguish between those roles based on character names or type of singer/dancer they are. In this show, where the title is also the name of the ensemble, it's a bit trickier. The full ensemble had a base Newsie character and look; we called these their "OG Newsie." They would then also change into looks to play Newsies from different geographic locations. In order to help the creative team keep track of who was in which group, we made a secondary breakdown just listing each group. This proved invaluable when scheduling rehearsals and for our Costumes team to make sure everybody was accounted for.
