BRIAN'S TAKE

Tracking who is playing what role in scenes in big musicals can be a challenge, especially when actors play multiple parts within a scene or song. Besides tracking roles, you also need to consider how much time they will have to change. Sometimes this influences who can be in certain scenes and/or this will determine how the costume needs to be constructed. Although we didn't have a ton of true "quickchanges" in this show, there was extremely limited space in the wings and backstage so we had to stagger changes based on who needed to re-enter first. To accomplish this, we got timings for every costume change in the show and sent our Wardrobe team updates as we rehearsed. This, along with a quickchange rehearsal the day before tech, allowed us to better plan actor traffic backstage and assign dressers accordingly.
